Arizona, like other western states, is concerned about prioritizing water rights and the management of our water resources.  Appointed by the Arizona Supreme Court as a Judicial Officer, the Special Water Master is responsible for hearing and ruling on water right cases and developing rules to assist litigants in the legal proceedings that will recognize, quantify, and prioritize federal and Indian water rights in Arizona that in some cases extend back into the 1800''s.  The Special Water Master seeks a part-time Executive Secretary to manage cases, assist in the preparation of the annual budget, and provide administrative and clerical support. This position may work 20 hours per week.

This position is responsible for preparing periodic and annual expenditure reports; monitoring expenses throughout the year, processing invoices and payment requests; preparing travel claims; reading and logging pleadings into a database; monitoring progress of the cases; independently responding to questions from the public, litigants, and attorneys in writing or on the phone; and additional administrative and clerical duties in conjunction with running the office.

This position requires a High school diploma or GED equivalent and three years of increasingly responsible secretarial experience in a full-function office, excellent verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of and experience using Microsoft word and excel, as well as strong attention to detail. This position also requires, the ability to complete detailed work in a timely manner, maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information, the ability to work with other government officials, judges, attorneys, and members of the public with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy, and to effectively and independently handle multiple tasks, projects, and administrative assignments at the same time.

Travel level: negligible
