POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Court Operations Manager and the Clerk of the Court, this position’s responsibilities include processing appellate cases and court agendas, receiving, processing and distributing documents and information regarding cases and agendas, assisting the court’s customers in person, by telephone, and email, preparing legal documents, maintaining the court’s records and other court-related functions. This position also handles a variety of complex case processing tasks in a variety of case types, including special actions, certified questions from tribal and federal courts, and death penalty cases.
Additional responsibilities include training other Clerk’s office staff. Reviews and revises material content for automation training materials in collaboration with the Technical Services Coordinator. Engages in professional level discussions with Justices, Justice’s staff, Staff Attorneys, judges and staff from other courts, attorneys and the public, and acts as a resource and back-up, when necessary for other deputy clerks.
This position exercises a higher level of independent decision-making than a Deputy Clerk Specialist II. Regular attendance is required.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid-telework schedule once the employee has completed three (3) months of employment and has sufficiently proved their ability to perform assigned tasks.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree and three years’ experience working in an appellate court clerk’s office or similar environment. Relevant experience may substitute for education. This position requires extensive knowledge of appellate court operations, demonstrated ability to accommodate changes in responsibilities, duties and procedures, proficiency in front-counter customer assistance skills, the ability to work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines, as well as the ability to interpret legislation, rules, administrative orders, and policies and procedures.
The preferred candidate will have knowledge of the rules and procedures for all substantive areas of the clerk’s office, expertise in all substantive areas of clerk’s office operations, and knowledge of administrative functions in a government.
